West Bali - Lost Lindenberg

It is those who get lost, who find the new ways - Niels Kjær.

Nestled in the serene seaside village of Pekutatan, Lost Lindenberg stands tall as a playful oasis where eco-conscious luxury meets tropical tranquility, a seamless blend of imagination and raw nature.

Architects Alexis Dornier and Maximilian Jencquel have masterfully crafted Lost Lindenberg's design, a whimsical ensemble of three treehouse-like towers connected by enchanting elevated walkways. The architecture harmoniously blends into the surrounding natural landscape, preserving the jungle's serenity and embracing the mesmerizing views of the ocean. With only eight rooms, Lost Lindenberg boasts an impressively small footprint, perfectly aligned with its eco-conscious philosophy.

As we arrived at Lost, we were immediately greeted by a majestic neon wall adorned with vibrant colors and fun captions. This unique artistic installation set the tone for our stay, symbolizing the fusion of modern creativity with the natural beauty that enveloped the resort. Stepping through the hidden door and onto the grounds of Lost was akin to entering a dreamlike realm where time slows down, and worries fade away.

A raw, tropical version of Alice in Wonderland.

Lost is a place of discovery, where travelers can lose themselves in nature's embrace while finding a deeper appreciation for mindful luxury. Far from the beaten path, this secluded retreat offers an unforgettable escape from the ordinary, allowing you to forge a genuine connection with Bali's soulful essence. As the light and shadows playfully dance and develop throughout the day, it is a neverending serene visual experience to wander around the elevated walkways.

Waking up to the symphony of the jungle, I relished the unique scents and sounds that enveloped Lost. The earthy aroma of the rainforest, intertwined with the burning incense while the distant sound of crashing waves called on us to the beach.

The beach at Lost Lindenberg was a world unto itself. The striking black lava sand, a reminder of Bali's volcanic origins, created a dramatic contrast against the wild waters of the Indian Ocean. Few other souls are seen around, a fisherman driving by on a scooter to gather the catch of the day, a couple of wild dogs peaking out from the dense jungle - it is as close as one can get to feeling like a castaway.

After surfing or skimboarding (or as in our case, a soccer game with a homemade goal made out of driftwood), the rainwater jungle shower removes all traces of black sand from your body.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow across the waves, you immediately feel an undeniable connection to the raw, untamed beauty of this magical island.

For someone looking to explore beyond the neon wall, a short drive away in the hotel’s own car, lies Medewi Beach's renowned surf break for those seeking a thrill on the waves. On the day we ventured out, the waves were too high for us, so the Lost’s own surf instructor took us further up north, to Sumbul, where we were able to spend a couple of hours in the Indian ocean.

To explore more of West Bali’s astonishing nature, from majestic waterfalls to hidden rice terraces, the hotel can arrange for guided tours and secret locations, far from the beaten path.

It isn't just a paradise for adults; but a beautiful way to introduce our children to an eco-friendly lifestyle. The enchanting surroundings sparked their curiosity, and the eco-conscious practices demonstrated how travel can be woven with responsible choices. Here, kids can learn about the importance of preserving nature while experiencing the magic of Bali's untamed beauty.

Child-friendly games and activities such as balance boards and wooden games were available for all, making it easy to put away screens and devices and to focus fully on being present and together.

As the sun set in the evenings, a bonfire was set up on the beach, inviting guests to gather and socialize while dinner was prepared in the communal dining room. The hotel is fully vegan and prides itself on locally grown and sourced ingredients. Every dish we were served during our stay was impeccable and extremely tasty, the chef also goes above and beyond when altering or adding dishes for the children, making it a beautiful and mindful experience for all ages.

Lost Lindenberg is a place of discovery, where visitors can lose themselves in nature's embrace while finding a deeper appreciation for mindful luxury. Far from the beaten path, this secluded gem offers an unforgettable escape from the ordinary. Not just a destination; but an experience that left an indelible mark.
